The club was again well represented at the National Juvenile Uneven age groups Cross Country Championships held in Abbottstown on Sunday coming home with two individual medals. Crea Moore won her first national medal having lost out by just one position last year, while Darragh Whelan won an astonishing 7th title in 2025.
After all the recent rain the course initially held up well but got muddier and muddier as the day progressed. Thankfully the early races weren’t too badly affected and the athletes were able to run over most of the course with little issue. Pictures from the Novice’s races later in the day showed a different story as the course turned into an absolute mud bath.
First up from the club was Cillian Power in the u11 boys race where he placed a creditable 47th in his first National outing. Next were the u13 girls where Crea Moore led home the team in a superb 6th position. Crea ran strong from the outset settling into about 9th or 10th over the first 1km lap, she then started to move through over the 2nd 1.5km lap coming home in 6th. The team came 11th with Rachel Ryan in 67th, Zara Coman in 121st and Caragh Treacy in 139th.
Finally, in the u15 boys Darragh Whelan defended the title he won in Tramore last year winning by a comfortable margin of 18seconds. Unlike two weeks in Derry where Darragh sat in for the first lap, he took the lead immediately and after the first 800m the result was never really in doubt. As with the girls, the boys team was also 11th with Rain Kiely Keogan in 64th, Myles Anderson in 85th, Oisín McGuinness in 122nd and Tadhg Reen in 148th.
Well done to all who took part and thanks to all the coaches, parents and guardians for their support on the day.
