You can’t keep a good athlete down and only a few weeks after having her appendix removed Zara proved that saying true by winning the National u14 Combined Events Championships in Santry on Saturday. Trailing by over 100 points going into the last event, the 800m, Zara had to beat the current leader by over 10.2 secs to move ahead her. Showing no signs of her enforced absence from training Zara ran a superb 800m to finish 10.3 seconds ahead and claim the gold by only 3 points. Massive congratulations to Zara and her coaches for all the hard work she has put in this year. This was Zara’s first national title having come 3rd in the indoors in January.

Also competing at the combined events were Charlie Smith who came 6th in the u14 competition, and Dáire O’Dwyer who competed in his very first Decathlon in the u18 event.

Well done again to all our athletes who competed not just this weekend but over the whole of the track season. It has been our most successful season in many years in terms of both participation levels and performances. A huge thank you to all the coaches, athletes, parents, guardians and volunteers who helped over the season.

Time for a well deserved break for everyone to enjoy the fantastic summer weather.
