After a week of rain the sun shone in Two Mile Borris today for the Senior and Juvenile uneven age Cross Country Champions. The local organisers deserve huge credit for delivering a course that was in excellent condition given the amount of rain that has fallen, with good running underfoot around the whole course.
Today was the first taste of Munster Cross Country for our u9s and Caoimhe Burke gave the club a great start to the day with an outstanding 4th position in the girls race. She was followed home by Aoibhin Power (45th), Heidi Redmond (63rd), Jessica McElroy (91st), Eve Durack (108th) and Emma Corbett (114th). The team came home in 9th.
The boys also enjoyed their first provincial race and were agonisingly close to a team medal, coming 4th with 159 points, only 1 point behind Leevale. The individual positions were Rian Noonan (17th), Cian O’Brien (34rd), Roan Treacy (50th), Séimí Glynn (58th), Ross O’Neill (77th), Felix O’Connell (110th) and Samuel Rice (111th).
While the u11 Girls may not have won any medals today, they certainly won the competition for the greatest turnout. The team came 6th with the individual results as follows, Tara Considine (28th), Mabel Anderson (42th), Allie O’Neill (64th), Aisling Ryan (67th), Saoirse Noonan (104th), Petra Barry (115th), Cassie McNamara (158th), Ruth Clancy (175th), Fia Mulcahy (185th) and Klaudija King (192nd).
In the Boys u11, Cillian Power had a great race to final 6th overall qualifying him for the National Championships in Abbottstown on the 7th of December. The rest of team were Liam Halley (70th), Liam Kozarov (75th), Phillip Heffernan (81st) and Darragh O’Donovan (106th).
The u13 Girls also qualified for the Nationals with an excellent 2nd place in the team event. Led home by a fantastic 3rd place for Crea Moore the girls packed well to ensure the team silver. The other individual results were Gabriella O’Neill (24th), Zara Coman (30th), Caragh Treacy (31st), Rachel Ryan (33rd), Lori McPhail (44th) and Rose O’Neill (54th).
In the U13 Boys Jack Ryan finished 24th with Rian Murphy in 74th while Grace Power was then 62nd in the Girls u15.

Darragh Whelan defended his u15 title, winning by an astonishing 42secs and helped the team to a silver medal and qualification for the nationals, while the county team also won bronze. The result was especially impressive given the other 3 scorers were all running up an age. The other individual results were Killian Coman (13th), Rian Kiely Keogan (24th), Myles Anderson (44th), Oisín McGuinness (49th), Tadhg Reen (68th) and Kyle Maher (73rd).
In the u17 boys John Farrell was also running up an age and finished a very creditable 25th.
Finally, in the senior races Natasha Kelly came an excellent 10th in her first Munster Cross Country, while Tom Shanahan came 32nd in the men’s race only 7 days after running a sub 3hour marathon in Dublin. Derek Kiely was just behind Tom in 35th.
A huge well done to everyone how ran today and good luck to all our athletes who qualified for the Nationals on the 7th of December.
Thanks again to all the coaches, parents and guardians who helped today and hopefully we’ll see you all again on the 9th of November for the Limerick County Juvenile uneven age and Masters Champions. The races are in Newcastle West again, with the Masters going off first.
