The sun shone on a beautiful course at Mallusk Playing Fields over the weekend for the All-Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships. The course was in excellent condition given the weather over the past months which made for very competitive racing.

First up were the minor girls where Grace Power running for Ursuline’s Thurles had an amazing All Ireland schools’ debut. Back in around 20th position after the first 500m Grace battled through the field to finish an impressive 4th which helped her Ursuline’s Thurles team win gold in the team event. Congrats to Grace and all her team mates.

Next up were Ryan Kiely Keoghan in the Minor Boys and Killian Coman (both Castletroy College) in the Junior Boys races. Both had strong races and finished in very creditable 16th and 20th respectively.

Finally, Darragh Whelan (Castletroy College) continued his amazing school’s career winning the Intermediate Boys race as a 1st year intermediate, following on from his victories in the minor and junior races. Darragh’s victory see’s him selected to represent Ireland at the Schools International Cross-Country Championships to be held in Bangor, Wales on the 21st of March.
