There was double success for Cate O’Brien and Darragh Whelan at the All Ireland Schools T&F Championships in Tullamore at the weekend. Representing Newport College, Cate won bronze in the Minor Girls 800m proving the old adage that you always run through the line. Coming from 5m back with only 20m to go Cate timed her dip perfectly to win a medal by thousands of a second.
While in the Intermediate Boys 1500m Darragh won gold representing Castletroy College. In winning his event Darragh also retained the Michael Hunt Trophy for the best 1500m performance of the day.
