Day 1 of the u13 and u14 Track and Field Championships were held in Templemore on Bank Holiday Monday and it was another very successful day for the club.

In the Hurdles, Charlie Smith won gold in the u14 boys followed closely by Patrick Keogh who took bronze in the same race. In the u14 girls, Zara Coman won bronze from Julie Quigley who came 4th. George O’Brien also won silver in the u13 boys 60m.

In the sprint events Gabriella O’Neill won gold in the u14 girls 80m while the u13 boys (Ryan O’Connell, Conall Redmond, Jake O’Connor and George O’Brien) won their 4x100m relay with the u14 girls (Crea Moore, Zara Coman, Aayla Coymns and Gabriella O’Neill) winning silver in their event.

There was double gold in the High Jump as Anna Murphy and Zara Coman won the u13 and u14 girls respectively. Zara’s gold meant she went home with a full set of medals.

Finally, in the middle distance events Tom Keogh won the u14 boys 800m while George O’Brien also won a 3rd medal of the day (a bronze) in the boys u13 600m.

Congratulations to all our athletes; we had several other finalists and high placings across the day.

Thanks to all the parents and coaches who volunteered to ensure the event went ahead.
